This was our first site. It took about 4 hours to set it up and about 3 to break it down. I guess we had to do it this way at least once to learn our lesson.

Our very first Butts getting prepped with Dizzy Pig Dizzy Dust. It's pretty funny that our best call of the weekend was in Brisket and I don't have a single shot of it in any stage. Oh well. |

Here is Davo being a great Sous Chef. No way would this first contest have happened without Davo and Karen.
You can see all the decorative lights we hung, much to Davo's displeasure, and our atomic clock telling me we were prepping way too early.
You can see part of our EGG set up back then. 2 Larges, 1 XL, and 1 Small. We used to wheel those off the back deck, through the house, down the front steps and into the back of Davo's pickup truck. Needless to say we changed that as soon as we possibly could. |

We didn't know it but this is a pretty regular event in Dillard in early August. It didn't last long but it cooled everything off. |

It's time to light the EGGs and Davo decided to give it a hand. We were lighting the EGGs for the Trout and Grits turn ins. |

Karen and I worked on this grits recipe for about a month. They were some of the best tasting grits in the state with lots of savory flavors and cheese. They didn't stand a chance however. I went down to visit with Sam and Diane and Diane gave me a piece of delicious cheesecake. I told her she was gonna win Dessert and then she told me it was her grits turn in. I had to go back and break the news to Karen. |

I'm concentrating very hard on this trout. Again this was for naught. This was our first time out and we didn't realize that in order to win these categories you had to disguise the main food into something else. In this case I'm sure it was some sort of smoked trout dip. |

Here's our 7th place chciken. Looking at this box it makes me wonder what the judges were thinking...lol.
Like I said earlier I managed to not get a shot of the brisket.
